The problem with cloud AI

Every time you paste a client document into a cloud AI tool, it leaves your office. For a Swiss law firm, that is not a convenience trade-off but exposure on three fronts: professional secrecy, data protection and cost.

Professional secrecy (Art. 321 StGB). Sending client material to a third-party processor can breach attorney-client privilege. A data-processing agreement does not remove the criminal-law exposure.
Revised Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG, in force since 1 September 2023). Cloud processing of personal data triggers consent, transparency and cross-border-transfer duties you can no longer fully control once the data sits on someone else's servers.
Foreign jurisdiction. Most "enterprise" AI runs on US hyperscalers, where data can be compelled by foreign authorities (e.g. the CLOUD Act) regardless of where you signed the contract.
Privacy you cannot verify. Cloud privacy is a promise in a contract, a policy rather than a guarantee. You cannot inspect what happens to your files after they leave. Granid's guarantee is architectural: the data physically cannot leave.
Your work as training data. Even with a "no-training" clause you are trusting a policy. The only way to be certain your files never train a model is for them never to leave the building.
Per-token, unpredictable cost. Metered cloud pricing means your bill scales with how much you use the tool, and the vendor sets the meter.
No control over the model. The provider can deprecate the model, change its behaviour, or raise the price. Your workflow depends on decisions made outside your firm.
